After world war two they also found a lot of the people who died and had an autopsy performed had MS type of lesions found in the brain. Many of these people didn't exhibit any signs of MS either. Of course just having the lesion in the brain didn't mean that the person definitely had MS but it also showed that many more people then were previously thought had these types of lesions in their brains.
