Sooner or later they all will caption, Fran. Captioning is not just for deaf people anymore. Increasingly, it is serving as a medium to help individuals develop skills in english as a second language. This has been most effective with Asian and Hispanic immigrants. They can hear and SEE the words, which accelerates learning. The FCC must release the rules for the built-in decoder chip by April 15. Then we will begin to see TV receivers with captioning included at no extra cost. Soon all sets 13" and larger will have this feature. Then the programming that does not include closed captioning will begin to lose a measureable amount of viewership. They will be faced with the "dinosaur's choice - adapt or die".
