There is a handy list of text/binary compression utilities available
via anonymous ftp from ux1.cso.uiuc.edu (128.174.5.59) in the directory
doc/pcnet as the file compression (though another file there,
compression.new, was more recent).  It is maintained by David Lemson
(lemson@uiuc.edu).  The list also covers various binary<->text conversion
utilities (uuencode, binhex, etc.).  ftp sites are listed, and many
come with source, which is what would be of particular interest to
readers of this newsgroup.
