How much memory does a Perl job take? Is there any way to reduce this by stripping out unused parts of Perl and putting it in an .EXE file? How does Perl compare to a C program when running (a lot more memory used, yes?) We need to ZIP out of an R:BASE subprocess, but programming this "parser" in Perl would be *much* easier than in C from the ground up.
