Thanks millions to the two respondents in my quest for an MHS-
SMTP gateway; summarized:

We have a PCNFS network of PC's running DaVinci MHS email, and we
talk to our unix machines using DaVinci's SMTP gateway eGATE. It
is a generic MHS gateway, so you wouldn't have to run DaVinci
email to use it. The price is good $2500. But it needs a
dedicated PC.
We have been running it now for about 6 months and we have no 
major complaints. email with attachments get uuencoded so the 
unix side gets the attachments.
