You haven't been paying attention.

Version 2.8.1 was about 85000 bytes long.  When I tried doing a diff between
that at version 2.7.1, the diff file was about 875000 bytes long.  So far,
each time the middle digit has changed, THE DIFFS ARE BIGGER THAN THE ORIGINAL.
Eric *has* been posting diffs for 2.8.2 and 2.8.3.
