In the past I have been caught out by multitudes of fixes, and not knowing which ones are "official" and which ones are "unofficial". Fixes which have been fully beta-tested need some kind of flag to indicate this fact. Fixes which are untested also need to be flagged. Perhaps separate groups is the answer, unless there is an alternative. Should there be separate groups for standard and advanced Minix? The opportunities for confusion in this area will be extremely high. A releated issue is: Perhaps there is a need for a "Road Map" document, like Unix International have for System V. I know that there is work going on for Posix-ification of Minix. TCP/IP is also being done. In the short term there is UUCP, mail, news, advanced Minix, etc, etc. A good indication of the need for a "Road Map" is that I don't know everything that is going on in Minix. Who does? Is it secret? Does everyone agree what the "Road Map" is or will be? paul@ukpoit.co.uk Paul Wood, 31 Buttermere Drive, Dronfield Woodhouse, ----------- Sheffield, England, S18 5PX. ----------- -- Paul Wood [ e-mail: paul@ukpoit.co.uk or ...!ukc!ukpoit!paul ] [ address: iT, Barker Lane, Chesterfield, England S40 1DY ] [ phone: +44 246 214256, postline: 5403 4256, fax: +44 246 214353 ]
