Yes, this is a desperate plea for help!!!! -- It's been a while since I've played DMI, and I don't have the handbook you describe (descriptions of monsters is not to be found in the user manual which comes with dmI), so I don't know what they are from the name you describe. However, I have a suggestion which might help you out. It's possible that the beasts you're facing are non-corporeal, in which case only specific weapons and spells will harm them.
