The GS Smart Port is the most sensitive part of the GS motherboard. I used to repair Apple II's and a guy I worked with blew out three of them. Plugging the cable in when the system is on or reversing the cable (done usually when connecting to Disk II with a new cable) causes the smartport support circuitry to blow. Consider yourself lucky - most cases result in a completely disabled GS. Unfortunatley, unless your good at surface resoldering and can get access to custom made chips for the GS, your only course of action is a motherboard replacement. _______________________________________________________________________ | |9600 bps 60 megs | | Drew Rudman | Call The Charge BBS | | drewr@hpcc01.corp.hp.com or | IBM/Apple Support 24hrs | | drewr@hpiosa.corp.hp.com | (415) 321-4713 - Menlo Park, CA | |_____________________________________|_________________________________|
