The icons can be set up to open applications or desk accessories, and you can link a document (like the appropriate Home stack or recent project stack) so that it opens along with the application. If this is combined with an HFS-extension like Boomerang or ShortCut, very little functionality is lost. _Launch is available by anonymous ftp at sumex-aim.stanford.edu in the /info-mac/util directory.
