Thanks for all the info I got on the cable for modem question. I used
the zs(4) man page layout with one addition (from Mark Adler): leave pin
8 disconnected. It did not work with pin 8 connected like NeXT suggests.

I haven't been able to make the null-modem connection work properly
(some problem with DCD, CTS etc.), but the fact that this is typed on a
NeXT running kermit and logged in to a VAX sais it all.
