The line which causes this is: \font\elevenbf=cmbx10 scaled \magstep1 % boldface for titles which appears in a file which is \input in the first line of the main TEX file. This is strange, as I have set up environment variable TFM to point to the correct TFM directory. Everything works OK if I either put the main TEX file in the same directory as the .TFM files, OR in the same directory as the file that I \input (this is in the directory pointed to by the environment variable TEXINPUT). What's going on? It seems only to go wrong when it has to use an environment variable to find a TFM file referred to inside an input file which it needed to use another environment variable to find. Any suggestions? Richard Stanton pstanton@gsb-lira.stanford.edu -- Richard Stanton pstanton@gsb-lira.stanford.edu
