I just read Sch\"{o}pf's message and picked up new lplain and splain files
from labrea.  My problem is that I am not a TeXpert by any means and I
am having trouble using initex to create .fmt files.

We are running the DECUS TeX collection under VMS 5.4-1 and I notice that
the TeX distribution (latest one) does not include lplain.tex and splain.tex -
just the .fmt files      When I go to create a new lplain.fmt I trip over
when TeX tries to read in fntchoice ..... exactly what files do I need
(aside from lplain.tex and splain.tex) and where do I get them from?

Note - our site does not support PS fonts.
