It seems that if you don't do this, Windows tries to allocate memory at those addresses. Unfortunately, this is where both the SCSI and SVGA BIOS are located. When Windows tried to write to those locations, it immediately dropped to DOS. If you have any card which has extensions to the BIOS, you probably need to do this. -- Dave Katz katz@eola.cs.ucf.edu
