It is also rather interesting that you should mention DDE, a feature Windows has had for a number of years now and that Apple is finally getting around to emulating. If you also throw IBM's raison d'etre operating system, OS/2, into the fold, you realize that the 'space race' between Macs and PCs is quite close.
