   I don't know if it's better, but we let people type in options after
their username, for example:

           login: john -tvtwm
        password: ......

these get passed on down to the startx scripts where they do appropriate
things.

We did add buttons for other things though (help, register for an account,
report trouble) but these are not related to a normal login.
