I missed the original query.  Do you want to change the label of
a button that is in the pulldown menu, or the label that is currently
displaying in the cascade, or the label to the left of it?  For the
latter two I unmanaged the widget, change the label and remanage it.
The former I don't do yet.  But what I would probably do is change
the labelString on the widget, and then reset the menuHistory setting
on the optionMenu in case someone was pointing at the button before.

I'm not sure which upsets me more: that people are so unwilling to accept
