Lines: 22 Approved: military@amd.com From: Welsh James CPT 1. Maximum ordnance load: F/A-18: 13,700 lbs A-7: 12,000 lbs 2. The A-7 carries more 20mm ammunition than the F/A-18, 1019 to 580. 3. The F/A-18 is far more capable than the A-7. The accuracy of CAS provided by the F/A-18 is fantastic. In comparison, we would refer to A-7's working with us to be flying "pseudoCAS", or "not so close air support". 4. Two references for aircraft comparisons: FMFM 5-4A - Close Air Support and Close in Fire Support OH 6-2A - Fire Support Coordinator's Guide Both of these are military references, but contain good tables for comparing aircraft.
