This is also true of credit cards. I've had MC/Visa card reps absolutely refuse to cancel card numbers that I didn't want to renew. They call it a convenience in case I change my mind six months later. I call it their forlorn hope that I will accidently use it and then they can hit me for the annual fee. The only solution is probably to report the number stolen. Wm.
