OK.  I'm a newcomer to this newsgroup so bear with me.

I'm wondering about sendmail/SMTP authentication of mail origination.
The well known 'telnet <host> 25' method of spoofing the mailer makes
me wonder if there is such a thing as a secure SMTP gateway.

I 'spose this has generated reams of bits numerous times, but if
you will summarize or cite references I'd be grateful.
