Subject: gcc for 286. how should i write description?

as there is no description thing for 286 for gcc or gas, i plan to
write one to work with xenix 2.0.
what is the best way to go about it?  would anyone else be interested in
such a thing?  is there an instruction manual somewhere for writing the
description things? i imagine that gcc&gas would require major changes,
as 286 is a 16 bit processor.
