The error was supposedly the fault of the company Aprotek contracted to produce the particular chip (I don't know which one). Only a very few Aprotek modems actually detect BUSY and VOICE - I guess some get through all right, because their individual testing revealed that about 5 or 10% of the modems DID work. (I learned all this talking to the technician one day last year.) Incidentally, my Minimodem-H24 doesn't detect BUSY or VOICE either. Nick
