Keywords: hardware troubleshooting help needed Message-ID: <1991Mar30.092533.7371@netcom.COM> Date: 30 Mar 91 09:25:33 GMT Sender: tbell@netcom.COM (Tim Bell) Followup-To: comp.sys.dec Distribution: na Organization: Netcom - Online Communication Services UNIX System {408 241-9760 guest} Lines: 47 Our VAXstation II/GPX will not boot. When I hit the Restart/run button, the dialog is as follows: KA630-A-V1.3 Performing normal system tests. 7..6..5..4..3.. Tests completed. >>> B DUA0 2.. ?4D DEVOFFLINE, DUA0 ?06 HLT INST PC= 00000EE6 Failure. >>> The machine is configured with two RD53 disks. We boot Ultrix off DUA0, and can also boot VMS from the local VAX/VMS cluster. When running VMS, DUA1 is used for local page & swap, as well as user files. DUA1 has a standalone backup kit on it, but I get the same "?4D DEVOFFLINE" message as with DUA0. I can bring the machine up under VMS, using a page file installed on another node. The local disks, however, do not show up at all in the output of $SHOW DEVICES. We acquired this machine from a subsidiary some years ago, and I am unable to locate any hardware documentation for it. In fact, the people who set up the machine are long gone. Any advice would be much appreciated. Information about tests I can do from the >>> prompt would be invaluable to me. Post or send E-Mail ... I will summarize if there is interest. Thanks in advance... -- ---------- Tim Bell tbell@netcom.COM {apple, amdahl, claris}!netcom!tbell
