B: is never checked as a boot drive (execpt on one card I remember reading about). Neither is D:, E:, etc. checked. The only bootable drives are A: and C:. At startup, the computer verifies that drive B: is present, but it never tries to boot from it. The only way to have the computer try booting from drive C: first is to have no A: drive in the machine (ie. disconnect the drive cable or disable the drive in setup). But you said you would rather not sacrifice a floppy. However, if you simply tell setup that there is no drive A: you can always easily reenable it when you need it (just a suggestion for machines with setup in ROM). Unfortunately there is no way to change the order in which the computer checks its boot drives.
