You can do it if you're very careful *about* what you do. I once downloaded in background, crashed an app in foreground, went to Macsbug and issued an es, and the downloading did no hiccup- blew my mind. But in general it is a real pain having to walk on eggshells while your download goes ahead. Maynard Handley
