Your friend should probably be able to get a 512K for less than that. For very little more, he should be able to get a 512KE, which has the 128k ROMs. If said friend is into hardware, and is content with a 512K, I can sell him a a logic board with 64K ROM set (the ROMs are the genuine Apple parts) and a 400k drive, plus the necessary schematics to make his own Mac. He will need a power supply and a TTL monitor that will work at 22kHz (most can be modified), plus one chip ($1.00), some wire and a box. You can use a PC case - the 62.5w PSU is big enough if you don't want an internal hard drive later on (you probably don't - the upgrade to handle it is not worth the price, given the price of a used MacPlus). The whole thing should cost him more than $300.00 complete. Let me know if there is any interest.
