The problem is most likely that you are trying to run xbiff which uses the X11 bitmaps flagup and flagdown. You don't have the necessary links set up it.../usr/include/X11/bitmaps should contain the necessary files. Now, this is probably going to be a link the new X11R4 include files. Maybe that is what you have forgotten.
