I have to agree that this song may indeed be about rape.  And I see no
reason why turning into a mule is a callous statement about a rape
victim.  Listen to the song again -- those "hee haws" are *chilling*!
As I said in my earlier message, a mule can be a symbol of certainty/
strength/resolve.   At least that's how _I_ read the song.
