I have found that this field is so new (relatively) that it is nearly impossible to get directly relevant educational experience. My recent experience managing a half million dollar project creating a visual database for the German government (they are very happy with our version of their central German area) has convinced me of the importance of the aesthetic or artistic direction of such undertakings.
