I seem to recall Alessandro Giua posted something else about sublink, but unfortunately I can't find that article anymore. We got some mail from US and Canada, asking for explanations about our domain .sublink.org. I cross-posted this article to comp.mail.misc, comp.mail.uucp and comp.unix.misc so that possibly a wider audience will read it. A very cheap link to the internet/usenet world is available since 1989 in ITALY. Our organization offers all of the usenet netnews and e-mail with all of the world's networks to its members. Connections are based on uucp over telebit modems (t1000 and t2500); links are available in most of the main italian cities. There are discounts for buying such modems, also. All hosts are registered automatically within the .sublink.org domain. Sublink is lawfully acknowledged as a non-profit organization. We support both privates and companies; in 1989 and 1990 yearly fees for news&mail were 40 $ for students/privates and 125 $ for companies. Netnews are kindly offered by Olivetti Systems & Networks, and are distributed by Olivetti's research center in italy. We are trying to offer a good service keeping fees as low as possible at the same time. Currently there are about 80 members, most of which are companies. Lots of Unix vendors are reachable on Sublink, along with companies selling hardware and software. An archive site is available for retrieving software, also. Local linking is possible in Milano, Torino, Trento, Pavia, Firenze, Bologna, Roma, L'Aquila. We support unix and dos users, providing necessary software for free. The whole thing is managed very seriously. Queste sono le informazioni che ho trovato: 11/90 +39-541-27858 xtc Rimini (Fo) IT 3/12/24/96 24 386/20, 380Meg, ISC 386ix; Menu driven BBS, no shell. tb+ on first line, +39-541-27135 has USRobotics HST. USENET News and Fidonet and sublink. Fidonet address 2:332/307, 2:332/308. No fees required but no downloads on the first call -- comp.sources.* archive + lots of MSDOS programs & GIFs available. Multiuser chat, games, etc.
