So of course the few people who answered my posting(s) are bent on showing me up rather than answering my question. Serves me right for making such stupid mistakes and deflecting them from my purpose!! Let me *not* give an example but couch the question in more general terms. Where/how does the standard explain that an expression such as x[i++] *= y; has the "x[i++]" part evaluated only once, while an expression such as x *= y; has the "x" part evaluated twice, as in x = x * y; Thanks.
