One small note about Chinese: try inventing a written language for one billion people who speak, say, a dozen mutually incomprehensible dialects, with hundreds of variations. Extra credit: make your language independent of pronounciation drift. Can you say phonemes? Can you say alphabet? Can you say alphabet independent of phonemes? Everything happens for a reason.
