When trying to compile the kernel sources for 1.5.10, the compilation
succeeded for all but "console.c". Here make gave messages to the
effect
      ....error 254
make: error 256

I tried this with various command line options like 
   cc -F....
in case it was a memory space problem.

Possibly related is that the c-kermit will compile but not
link on my system. It gives the message that asld is out of memory.
When I F1 to check memory usage, there seems to be quite a bit of memory
available, for asld is being loaded at about 300k out of 484k.
