However, I would argue that there is one overriding argument in favour of some kind of split up: Assistance for archive sites. The way that comp.os.minix runs at the moment must create a lot of work for maintainers of archive sites - unless they have the disk space to store everything, and if they store everything the users of the archive sites then have the job of sorting out the chaff, often from only the subject line (unless they fetch everything). As archive sites are effectively a service to us all, any help we can give must surely be welcome. So there should either be two groups, one for general chitchat and cries for help, and one of material suitable for archiving, or we should place an Archive-as line or some such in any posting we think should be archived, and any non conformant message doesn't get archived.
