If the latter, fairly reasonable substitutes for long file names include. 4DOS (shell system) - implements long file descriptions viewable at DOS level merely with the DIR command (names held in a hidden file DESCRIPT.ION in each directory. Seem to be the most seamless of file name extenders Programs such as WordPerfect which can display extended file descrip- tions (proprietary) when listing directories External file description programs such as DIRNOTES (from PC Mag) and Extend-a-Name I have found the first 2 very helpful. It's too bad that other appli- cations programs don't recognize the 4DOS system, since no commands other thann DIR are needed. -- Michael Volow, Psychiatry, Durham VA Med Center, Durham NC 27712 919 286 0411 Ext 6933 mvolo@ecsvax.edu
