I would like to know the details of programming the common
mice that are used in DOS systems, i.e details of the 
serial protocols used, meaning of the raw data obtained
from the mice, how to program a bus mouse directly (at the
I/O port level) etc. 

I am thinking in particular of the Microsoft bus+serial, 
genius, and mouse systems mice.

This info is needed because it is not possible to use
the normal mouse device drivers in the environment in
which they are being used, and therefore it is necessary
to resort to the hardware itself.
