Besides doing fancy color graphics, we want to be able to conveniently use it for FAX, and OCR. The only hardware I know about that runs on the Sun are the Microtek's (the 300??) and the HSD ScanX. The only "low" cost OCR software I know of is "Servant" sold by the HSD people. We have a price limit of about $3K for scanner and software. I recently saw a negative review of a Microtek scanner in PC Week, where the PC version was rated against newer PC technology. I haven't seen any evaluation of the HSD. I would appreciate hearing about any first hand experience with these scanners or Servant, or for that matter anything else that runs on a Sun. -- Ken Mandelberg | km@mathcs.emory.edu PREFERRED Emory University | {rutgers, gatech}!emory!km UUCP Dept of Math and CS | km@emory.bitnet NON-DOMAIN BITNET Atlanta, GA 30322 | Phone: Voice (404) 727-7963, FAX 727-5611
