Take a look at popmail from U of Minnesota (boombox.micro.umn.edu:pub/Popmail) It uses the packet driver interface for the PC and is also available for the Macintosh as well. It may not run with BWNFS though since packet driver does not support multiple instances of the same protocol (in this case TCP/IP). It will run as long as another TCP/IP program is not loaded (e.g. You can run telnet and then popmail, but not NFS and popmail because the NFS stays loaded while popmail runs.
