This time the subject is Novell NetWare. There is a Novell list available. Tell Listserv at SUVM Sub Novell (your_name) will get you on the list. >Because AutoCAD was heavily used, it was impossible to have NetWare software >installed simultaneously. We have a lab of 30 machines on a 386 v3.1 novell server and have no problems.....15 machines print to one laser jet, the other 15 to another. Sounds like a ram-cram problem....too many tsr's, not enough memory. :-( Using XMSNET? or EMSNET? helps alot. >Is there any way of starting SERVER to force it to mount either the primary >or mirror SYS volume so we can find out what the damage is and recover from >this error? Running SERVER -NA (meaning don't run the file AUTOEXEC.NCF) will allow the server to boot without mounting SYS, any other volume, or running the command that are located in SYS:SYSTEM\AUTOEXEC.NCF. What drive do you load SERVER from? You should see several *.NLM files. If so, after running SERVER -NA, you can do the following: : LOAD (drive):VREPAIR.NLM ....where drive is either C:, D: or where VREPAIR.NLM is located. >The second part of my inquiry involves upgrading to version 3.11 of NetWare- >-our upgrade kit arrived last week. When we upgraded from v3.0 to v3.10, SERVER was run, then INSTALL.NLM. INSTALL went thru the disk deleting V3.0 files it found, and then we just installed the system and public files. Since you have a FAT problem, I don't think that you will be able to install something until after you get your FAT tables back in sync. >Is there an SMTP product available that can use Novell's new NetWare prod- >uct? I didn't find any mention of SMTP in the documentation. You can download pmail21a.zip and charon31.zip from 130.160.20.80. This is a fan-damn-tastic mail program with a SMTP gateway (charon.zip). Pegasus mail is easy to install, and for a small fee ($250) you get a printed manual and the ability to make unlimited copies for one site/city. Its well worth the money, though you do not need the manual to install the program. Just unZIP the pmail21a file in a directory, type PMAIL and your off and running. Pmail21a.zip and Charon.zip are located in pub/network-pc/pegasus. Use anonymous FTP to download them. >There also appears to be a capability to encapsulate IPX frames in TCP/IP >packets. Has anyone used this capability to tunnel through a TCP/IP net- >work? Ask on NOVELL. I think that there are several site which are starting to play with v3.11....hopefully, we'll get ours soon. Email me direct if you can't find VREPAIR.NLM and I'll see what I can do.... ---------- An ounce of application is worth a ton of abstraction. ---------- James Ford - JFORD@UA1VM.UA.EDU, JFORD@mib333.mib.eng.ua.edu The University of Alabama (in Tuscaloosa, Alabama)
