Switch your Window Manager, Peter. What are you using currently, MWM? Other Window Managers like TWM can move the keyboard input-focus to the window that contains the current mouse pointer. I believe it can also do auto-raise if you desire. The X Window System pretty much lets you choose your GUI style. No, the NeXT can't do that.
