Yes, this happened to me.  I concluded it was something about that particular
location, and not the type of monster (though I do believe it was Phase
Spiders for me, too..  hmm...).  Anyway, after a couple attempts, I decided
not to move onto that particular location...

There are a few bugs in the program.  For instance, when you start one
of the 2-classes Elf characters (I forget which, maybe Cleric/Mage), it
divides the starting EXP by 3 (instead of 2).  I didn't bother to play
this class and find out if the experience got divided by 3 for the rest
of the game, or not.

Also, I found interesting behavior on my A3000.  When I run under 2.0
(a recent Kickstart of the 37.74 variety), the mouse doesn't work at all.
It just stays a shield the whole time.  I tried it under 1.3, and the 
mouse works correctly, but the program freezes up sporadically, and quite
frequently, for no reason at all.

I decided it was better to play under 2.0, and forgo the mouse support...
