Is gcc required ? 1. Yes, it is easy. 2. No, last time I tried with gcc it did not work because of gcc/gas misinterpreting an external symbol starting with a capital 'L' as a local label. Perhaps somebody fixed this. My overall experience with X11R4 was not too good. Compiling the MIT code results in unshared code and huge clients. I have seen postings of people having combined all the stuff into a shared library, but I dont know if that holds for the clients only or also for the server. The server then does not support the DM anyway. We've got the famous psk2q_91 now with the Xdomain server which claims to be X11R4, but there are no clients nor libraries... pity! -- Rainer Toebbicke European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) Geneva, Switzerland rtb@cernapo.cern.ch, rtb@cernvm.cern.ch
