Someone Who claimed to be President of DECUS called and we struck a deal to trade for a book. I was pretty much giving it away. I have not recieved anything in return and have lost the persons name. I can only assume that there has been a mixup or I have been had. If you are out ther , please contact me at 508 460 1643. WL>Yes, they are. However, they have only 80 tracks of data on them. GT> Ah, can you explain this? Is this due to formatting? If you have a drive doing 96 TPI and only us 1/2 inch of disk to put data on you would have a 48 track system. You also could format only ever other track. DEC uses only par of an inch and gets 80 Tracks. This is why you can format IBM single sides media in the Rainbow after bulk erasing the media (Using FORIBM under CPM). - --- msged 2.06 * Origin: Bob's_point of Cuckoo's Nest : Hudson, NH (1:132/119.4) ------------------------------ Date: 30 Mar 91 02:48 -0500 From: CHRIS MCEWEN To: GEORGE THEALL Subject: RE: FLOPPY DISKETTE DENSI The question seems to be popping back and forth about drives being rated as "96 tracks per inch" but only having 80 tracks. This, in fact, is standard. The usual 40 track drives have "48 tracks per inch." No one is getting cheated here -- we all have been living with this since they sold the first 5.25" floppy. :-) - --- MSBBS 0.10 * Origin: The Black Box RCP/M MSBBS, 713-480-2686 HST/V32/V42bis (106/601) ------------------------------ End of Rainbow EchoMail Digest ******************************
