After many hours of figuring out the proper configuration, I finally got it, and it works beautifully. Here is the config. that Iam using: Go to the port/line settings (alt-P) set parameters to N/8/1 (alt-N), 9600baud (5), then the comm port that your cable is hooked to (mine is comm1). If this happens to be the same port as your mouse, then you have to re-boot with the mouse driver deactivate. Next, go to the setup menu (alt-s), and switch the connection type parameter to direct (D..then toggle to direct).
