Our old xdm (A.00.00) started acting really strangely, and I decided it was
time to get something a little more up to date.  A quick ftp to hpcvaaz put
B.04.00 in my hands, and after some twiddling-around with it, it works like
a charm...almost.  If any of you have experience with these parameters, I'd
love to hear how they work.  We're running C2300A.

1. The error log consistently reports that "XDMCP AutoStart" is an invalid
keyword in the downloaded config file.  XDMCP is enabled, and we're on
"direct" to the controlling host, but the "host" field in the TERMINAL
screen of the config menus is blank.  I have tried capitalization changes,
but to no avail.  Here are some selected exerpts from the downloaded config
(/usr/tftpdir/usr/lib/X11/700X/config/*):

Access Control = Off   # On or Off  (turning this on manually makes no diff)

R3 Compatible = On     # On or Off

Network Config = BootP->Manual# BootP, Manual Entry, or BootP->Manual.

Remote Config  = On           # On or Off.

Telnet Auto Start = Off       # On or Off.
Telnet Host = "129.79.178.1"  # Host name or IP address.

XDMCP Auto Start = On         # On or Off. 
XDMCP Request = Direct        # Direct, Indirect, Broadcast
XDMCP Host = "129.79.178.1"   # IP address

129.79.178.1 is one of 2 LAN cards in the controlling host.  The local 700Xs
are all 129.79.178.X, so I'm assuming that 178.1 is correct.  The other card
is 129.79.196.101, which points to the internet-at-large.

2. I'm trying to get user-based .Xauthority stuff working, since our
environment is one of a primary X server with 700Xs attached.  So far, I
am still able to barge into one user's display whilst logged-in as another
user simply by resetting the -display option on any X program.  .Xauthority
is created automatically at $HOME upon login, with entries being made for
each X-terminal I login from.  Access control is enabled via preferences,
but the condition persists.  Some coaching with xauth would help, too...

Before anybody asks, I can't RTFM because we don't have easy access to a
LaserJet (the docs were in lj "raw" form).  Any help would be appreciated!
