My Model 80 at home won't format DD to 1.44Mb, and neither will most of the newer Model 70's on campus, as far as I know. However, my roommate's PS/2 formats to 1.44Mb regardless (unless you set command-line options on format), and he merrily uses DD disks as HDs all the time. He's had several disks give way right in the middle of files (luckily nothing important yet), but he doesn't seem to mind.
