So, if the torp was fired from near it's maximum range, you just have to run away a little bit and it will fizzle. If it was fired from close to you, you've either got a race on your hands or no chance. It's a good idea to know apriori what the range is and then check the speed of the thing just as it's fired to calculate whether it's worth running or not. I'm not sure if longer ranges (but still within max range) or angle of attack affects the probability of hitting.
