They use Imprimus mechanisms.  Imprimus is a subsidaey of Seagate.
I have one of these drives and they are BEAUTIFUL!

The rodimes are also Great drives.  One nice thing about the Rodime
is that they are 3 1/2" drives whereas the Apple drives are 5 1/4".
The only advantage I could see (with buying the Apple drive) if if you
are interested in service contracts.  AppleCare is available for the
Apple drive, but your dealer may not offer maintenance contracts on the
Rodime. (If you're even interested.)

Summary: I don't think you can go wrong either way.
