Fry) Newsgroups: comp.sys.mac.hardware Subject: Maximum memory for SE/30 & 512K ROM SIMM Summary: SE/30 > 8MB RAM? / any news on a 512K ROM SIMM? Keywords: SE/30, ROM SIMM Message-ID: <13193@ur-cc.UUCP> Date: 5 Apr 91 07:34:18 GMT Organization: University of Rochester, Rochester NY Lines: 29 Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but I would like to know whether the SE/30 can use 2 meg or 4 meg SIMMs to go up to 16 or 32 meg of memory. I realize that the extra memory beyond 8 meg can't be accessed under system 6.0.x, but what about 7.0's 32 bit mode? I have read in a few places (including Apple's generic SE/30 literature, but why believe it just because they say it :-) that 8 meg is all you get, but I seem to remember reading somewhere in the UseNet News that you could "slap those puppies in there and go!" (or words to that effect). If you can only use 8 meg in the SE/30, what is the limitation? Is it the 256K ROMs? Which brings me to my next question: has Apple made any peeps about whether they will be making a 512K ROM SIMM? Having the ROM on a SIMM is a great idea, but only if there are upgrades to stuff in the SIMM slot (hint! hint!). Once again, I remember this being discussed in these parts before, but the last I had read was that Apple hadn't said much more than, "Oh. We didn't know people were interested in that." (Duhhhhh...) Post or email if you have the skinny.
