Radius has a software product called ImpressIt. Storm Technology has PicturePress and the PicturePress Accelerator. I called Storm up and they were very helpful, including faxxing me a letter from the chair of X3L2.8 about the standardization effort. Evidently JPEG is being standardized by an ISO/IEC working group in picture coding and a CCITT special rapporteur group on image communication. This contact lead to a phone conversation with Lynn Barra of X3 Secretariat/CBEMA. The working group X3L2.8 has been promoted to a full committee X3L3. The chair is C. F. Touchton at IBM. The JPEG Draft Technical Spec is now at revision 8 version 8 and is available for $8.00 payable by check, money order, or credit card (I just ordered it by visa). The contact person is Lynn Barra at (202) 626-5738 voice or (202) 638-4922 fax. Or mail to the following specifying "Attention: JPEG Draft Technical Spec": X3 Secretariat: Computer and Business Equipment Manufacturer's Association 311 First Street NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC 20001-2178 Lynn says she hopes to have MPEG (moving picture standard) within a few weeks and MPIG (???) by this summer. I have no business relationship with any of this stuff. It's just that after some years of running an Internet to Bitnet mail relay I have a great deal of respect for the standards process and what they are trying to do...
